Chinese calligraphy
A pivot point exists between dance and calligraphy in the interaction of elementary aspects in regard to movement such as formal abstraction, dynamics, compositional syntax, structural harmony, powerful gesture and vibrant energy. That's why Tanz Atelier Wien invites the master of Chinese calligraphy, Abi Wailzer-Shen, to teach the basic principles of calligraphy (like brushwork and ink production) for two weekly hours of deep concentration.Abi Wailzer-Shen, master of Chinese calligraphy, was born on January the 17th 1966 in Chia-yi in the south of Taiwan. At the age of seven, she started to practice calligraphy, quickly mastered the technique and began to love the art of calligraphy. Studying with different masters, she learned the different styles like Regular Script, Grass Script, Seal Script and Clerical Script. In her youth in Taiwan she received multiple awards and won numerous competitions for Chinese calligraphy. Abi Wailzer-Shen has had solo exhibitions in Austria and Taiwan. She is married in Austria, since 1990 has lived primarily in Vienna, and is the mother of a 13 year old daughter.
